First off, anyone who posts a list for this week's potluck enters a drawing to win one of two copies of Stepping Stone, signed, sealed, delivered - yours!*

Because Stepping Stone was inspired by both the performance and lyrics of the song by Duffy, this week's potluck is about music in our lives. I've listed below 12 stages/moments in life. Pick at least six and provide a song title that describes that event for you. Add the name of the artist whose performance of that song is your favorite.

Last, provide one link to a performance of one of your songs so we can all have a listen.

When I was born my mother was singing:
Best thing about being a kid:
Me and school, it's like this:
First crush was all about:
When I knew I was in love for sure:
When I knew it was all over:
Me and work, it's like this:
Best day of my life:
Worst day of my life:
Get the *#(*$ out of my way and out of my life:
When I get up tomorrow, I'm going to be all about:
Life is like:

I'm hoping when we're done we'll have snapshots of each other from a musical perspective.

Karin

*You don't have to buy anything, but if you win a book you'll have to give me a snail mail address to receive it. Your odds of winning depends on how many play and if where you live they have a law against contests like this then you can't win. Up to you to determine that.

Though question, took me about 30 minutes to answer this one.

When I was born my mother was singing: Cliff Richard - Congratulations (Eurovision)

Best thing about being a kid: playing (soccer) outside: The Nits - J.O.S. Days http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fDJ7Ar1BKk

Me and school, it's like this: The Boomtown Rats - I don't Like Mondays

First crush was all about: Lois Lane - It's The First Time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCW9ObcxxT0 This song dates from the year I made my first steps into a gay bookstore. One hot summer day, the sales lady was swatting a fly behind the counter.

Me and work, it's like this: The Nits - Telephone song

Best day of my life: Can't pick a specific one, but I have fond memories of a tradition I started by taking my dad to the tryout performance of the New Years concert in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. His favourite ensemble performs classical inspirered music within a theme and young composers (aged between 6 and 16) perform their own written compositions. The most memorable theme was about street music. Some street performers were invited and after the concert some street musicians where performing at every exit.

Life is like: Prokofiev - Romeo and Julia

Me and work, it's like this: Bitter Sweet, Apocalyptica. I'm an artist, so when I'm working and finishing stuff I think of this song.  I get so warped up in the work that it is really hard to let go.

I am having trouble with finding a way to have a song mean something to a short phrase.  Music to me is about feelings.  As with art, I like to have many things that work with the complete association, idea.  Music has a lot of emotional responses for me so I'm going to cheat on Karin's subject.

Love in all its shades:
Kiss the Rain, Billie Myers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MibKBAnjhU
Last to Know, Three Days Grace
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN4M1dQLzUU
Breathe, Faith Hill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjpwL3OGHCE
Snuff, SlipKnot
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dTo48hSLsw

Anger:
You Oughta Know, Alanis Morissette
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR6mEu5-egA
You're Going Down, Sick Puppies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2bohKixLt8
Apocalyptica featuring Corey Taylor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrlvOYUay_4&feature=channel
I Don't Care, Apocalyptica featuring Adam Gontier
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu9uxGP5nL0
Home, Three Days Grace
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf0spWParyc&feature=PlayList&p=93801101229830D5&index=1

Sexual:
Possum Kingdom, The Toadies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5Cf5OusjrQ&feature=PlayList&p=BE39A67BB82991E9&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=28
Tell Me, Billie Myers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CJ3qGHCchA
Closer, Nine Inch Nails
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4VAv8y2hHM
Pussy, Lords of Acid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NMLs3QlPEE&feature=related

OK, so I have decided to stop for now but I can go on for hours talking or thinking about music.  I go through most of my days with music playing.  I sleep with my computer playing music and I work with my Zune on at all times. I have been known to even have my Zune on when I'm shopping.
