Firefighter Josephine Trilby loves the house she has painstakingly restored, and she loves her job as the first female fire chief of Springport, Florida. She also loves her privacy, which is why when a stranger buys the dilapidated house next door, she’s furious. It was her intent to purchase the property herself so she wouldn’t have neighbors. Her fury quickly dies however, when she catches an intriguing glimpse of her beautiful new neighbor. The intrigue only grows as she learns more about Miranda Maddox and her adventuresome five-tear-old daughter.
Jo suspects she might be the woman of her dreams, but why is she so secretive? Where did she get fifty-eight thousand dollars cash to pay for the house? Why move in the middle of the night? More importantly, why does she look alarmingly like someone accused of murder and portrayed on America’s Most Wanted? Jo is determined to uncover Miranda’s secrets. And she’s not above interrogating a certain five-year-old to get answers. But will she be able to keep her heart in check long enough?
Most of the time smoke means danger, but sometimes it’s a signal for something more.
