Ten Days in May

by Tracey Richardson

Camryn Hughes has reinvented herself since the chaotic and nomadic years of being a musician. She’s happy in her serene life until a new client has her examining her one regret—parting ways with her first love. Is it possible to go back and choose the other fork in the road—the one that leads back to the only woman she’s ever loved?

Brooke Ross has no regrets about her long-ago decision to put herself and her career as a restaurateur first. But thanks to the ongoing ravages on her business from the pandemic, plus a girlfriend she can’t bring herself to love, Brooke is at a crossroads. Throwing caution to the wind for once, she agrees to an unusual invitation that just might lead her to figuring out what—and who—she really wants.

Ten Days in May is about second chances, about choosing life, and discovering what’s meaningful in turbulent times.

FROM THE AUTHOR

"When I set out to write Ten Days in May, I knew I needed a spectacular setting: one that’s not only gorgeous and romantic, but serene and where there is a sense of community, even for strangers. It needed to be the kind of place that is naturally beautiful and lends itself to introspection and healing, because if there’s two things that Cam and Brooke need at this stage in their lives, it’s introspection and healing.

Cue Mackinac Island, Michigan—a place I’ve been visiting since I was a kid. The island straddles Lakes Huron and Michigan, as well as the state’s upper and lower peninsulas, and is about eight miles in circumference. The coolest thing about the island? It’s like stepping back in time. There are no motorized vehicles, just horses and bicycles plus lots of beautiful old Victorian mansions. Which made this the perfect place for Cam and Brooke to rediscover themselves and each other after eighteen years apart.

Ten Days in May delves into some pretty intense topics: the pandemic, death and dying, making life-altering changes. But it’s also about falling in love and finding peace within oneself and within a community, all on a gorgeous, romantic island steeped in history and tradition. It ends up being a vacation with some pretty big stakes, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading Ten Days as much as I enjoyed writing it."

Women Using Words
Ten Days in May is a character driven story, one that is dependent on growth and change. It works because Cam and Brooke stand up to the challenge; they change in ways that engage readers’ hearts as well as their minds. That’s largely because Richardson scripts solid developments for these women. She also constructs reliable backstories, one’s that make sense for the characters as well as the story. Readers walk away with a clear understanding of who these women are and where they came from. Their pasts are neatly threaded with their present, providing readers with a full-circle romance that is heartwarming as well as endearing.

Henrietta B. - This exquisitely written book is full of food for thought and a joy to read. I loved the characters (including Wendy the dachshund) and their captivating journeys. Dignity and hope come to mind if I had to sum up this book in a few words. A very worthy tribute to the pandemic and how it changed lives and a very worthy tribute to love and second chances and a very worthy tribute to lives lived well.

Sam D. - Ten Days in May is a bit of an unusual second chance romance. Unusual, but good. This book is as much a second chance romance as it is about finding peace, peace with solitude, yourself and the end of a life.

Carol C. - The main characters, Brooke and Cam, are very believable, I felt like I was right there with them. The story will pull many emotions from you…, Ms. Richardson truly pulls at our heartstrings with this one, but in the end, I came out feeling like I just wanted to hug my family and friends. I highly recommend this book…
