The Red Files

by Lee Winter

Ambitious Daily Sentinel journalist Lauren King is chafing on LA’s vapid social circuit, reporting on glamorous A-list parties while sparring with her rival—the formidable, icy Catherine Ayers. Ayers is an ex-Washington political correspondent who suffered a humiliating fall from grace, and her acerbic, vicious tongue keeps everyone at bay. Everyone, that is, except knockabout Iowa girl King, who is undaunted, unimpressed and gives as good as she gets.

One night a curious story unfolds before their eyes: One business launch, 34 prostitutes and a pallet of missing pink champagne. Can the warring pair work together to unravel an incredible story? This is a lesbian fiction with more than a few mysterious twists.

Rival journalists, one experienced, the other new, stumble onto a possible scandal that can get both of them off the entertainment beat and into investigative journalism. For Catherine it is a chance to redeem her tarnished reputation and for Lauren the opportunity to launch her career, but first they have to quit sniping at each other and work together to follow the leads. It isn’t long before they discover a growing attraction and respect, however there are plenty of powerful figures who are determined to keep them from publishing the story. They receive help from an odd assortment of friends and regular folk along the way. The mystery is woven nicely with romance and I liked the way the main characters had to uncover not only the story but their past, fears and aspirations. I would certainly recommend this book as I happily turned the page wondering what came next both in the romance and whether would they piece the story together and counter those trying to stop its publication.

Another gem from one of me recently-discovered favourite authors, the brilliant Lee Winter! I remember after reading the fantabulous “Requiem For Immortals” (my 1st Winter book) I couldn’t wait to get me hands on another critically-acclaimed Winter book, “The Red Files.” Blimey! I practically ingested the book in a blink of an eye! And have been re-reading it periodically since, I might add!

I highly recommend this series! A fan-bloody-tastic read, that’s for sure!

Meanwhile, can’t wait to read the upcoming Book 2!
