The Tides of Passion

by Diana Tremain Braund

Amy and Kelly have made a home in the sleepy community of Bath Island, Maine. However, their three year relationship has become choppy and Kelly wonders if she wants to spend the rest of her life being the target of her lover’s razor-sharp tongue.

Then Susan arrives on the Island with a new venture that would be long on economic opportunities but short on maintaining the island’s natural beauty.

Sparks fly, not only over how the island will be developed, but also as Susan’s interest in one of the women becomes more than a friendship.

As complications develop, Susan finds herself at odds with everyone – including her new love interest. Will Susan be able to hold it all together and finally find the one woman who touches her soul?

Just About Write
September, 2006: You know the main characters of The Tides of Passion are in trouble when the first words out of one person's mouth are, "You really lack class, you know" [page 2]. Said during a lovely dinner in a romantic setting, the statement makes the words sting all the more... The Tides of Passion is a bittersweet story filled with disappointments as well as triumphs. In the end, we are left with hope, but only after some very heart-wrenching events as we struggle through the difficulties and helplessness that the characters often feel.

August, 2006: Diana Tremain Braund has been writing novels for a number of years and is a well-known name in lesbian fiction. The nice thing about that is she has a proven track record with her earlier books. You know when you buy one that you are going to read a story that you like. She adds to that tradition with her latest work, The Tides of Passion.

‘The Tides of Passion’ is the first book I’ve read in a long, LONG time. While I didn’t actively seek a lesbian romance novel, the plot is what compelled me to give this book a dedicated read. I’m very pleased to report that ‘The Tides’ not only delivered a lovely and engaging story off the coast of Maine, but it reminded me of how badly I missed the joy of just sitting at home with a good book. Diana Tremain Braund is adept at establishing the setting. I’m from North Carolina and the closest I’ve been to Maine is Connecticut, but Braund’s description of coastal, southern Maine is so potent that the visuals in my mind actually feel at home to me. The characters are the best part. The three central characters of Kelly, Amy, and Susan are all easily interesting enough to keep the reader pinned to every event taking place in the story. Braund does a very good job of making sure their interactions with one another, additional characters, and the situations they find themselves in grab and hold your attention.

Overall, I love ‘The Tides’; it’s a very competent romance novel. Braund skillfully takes us along for a moving story about a woman torn between two loves on the picturesque coast of Maine. A beautiful, beautiful endeavor.
